The release of Apple’s iPod


Apple capitalizes on the increasing trend for digital music distribution by premiering its own MP3 player. While not the first MP3 player to hit the market, it was the first time a company had rolled-out a comprehensive digital music ‘solution’ which included Apple’s own compression codec (AAC), it’s own music distribution site, the iTunes store (P2P), and the iPod itself (basically a hard-drive with a limited GUI and an audio connector).
