First Roll of Photographic Film

Date(s)
1885

The first roll of photographic film was created by George Eastman in 1885. The film was made with paper rather than the plastics we often see today. It wasn’t until a few years later that film would begin to be on different materials such as nitrocellulose and “safety film.” These different types of film were created not just for a better and safer material, but also to create different effects in the final development.
